When Queen Victoria came to the throne in 1837, huge botanical structures like those at Kew Gardens, were well established. Inspired by these botanical wonderlands, ordinary Victorians found the opportunity to bring into their homes the glamour of winter gardens, continental spas and grand houses, irresistible.
Glasshouses were primarily used to provide hothouse plants and exotic fruits to enrich the Victorian diet, and introduce the scent of the tropics.
A Hartley botanical conservatory can be the most welcoming and versatile room in the house. It can be a quite place to read, or to entertain friends by candlelight surrounded by the inviting scent of plants and flowers.
The bespoke Hartley Kew System, creates a botanical glasshouse environment inside which you can grow and display your cherished plants regardless of the weather outside.
